Young people sailing
Sea Scouts - Falmouth Marine School Students
The Association has a commitment to enable young people to have first hand experience in sailing these historic craft and works closely with youth groups such as the Sea Scouts.
The local community is also encouraged to become involved in experiencing the methods of the sailing luggers of bygone years and the Association is in partnership with the Council for their "LEAP" project. The "LEAP" - Leisure Education and Awareness Program - enables members of the public over 50 years of age to experience sailing a traditional lug-rigged sailing vessell. This has proved to be very popular with the events fully subscribed. The Sailing Programme will show any available opportunities.
In 2004 the Happy Return was asked to take part in the Falmouth Marine School Traditional Boatbuilding Course for the first time and has now become part of the syllabus.
There is an interesting series of pictures of the students from the Falmouth Marine School "dipping the lug" on the Happy Return here:-
